Climate Change Festival, Centenary Square, Birmingham
What is your vision for the future of Birmingham?
Commissioned by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and Birmingham City Council, this event invited visitors to remodel their city in the context of Climate Change.
Birmingham was a powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution. Now it's set to apply that same spirit and ingenuity to a low-carbon revolution which will change the fabric of the city. This is being planned in news ways, and the Big City Plan is central to this. Drawn up by artists and musicians as well as planners, it involves extending the city core to encompass the area within its middle ring road. A key area for change extends through Digbeth, the historic heart of the city, through the Wholesale markets, to Southside and Attwood Green. Outside this area is a Buffer Zone - the focus of new parks, spaces, hotels and culture. The aim is for Birmingham to become a better designed, sustainable city, providing a healthier, less polluted and quieter place to live and work.
